Community

The Logos Project is a youth development organisation that also serves as a diverse and intergenerational community. While our primary focus is on youth development, we understand that young people thrive when surrounded by their loved ones. Our long-term commitment to young people extends to embracing their whānau and communities. This holistic approach has been a cornerstone of our operations for over 20 years, resulting in a continually growing community.

Many couples who met at Logos as young people two decades ago now have families of their own, and it brings us immense joy to celebrate their milestones—weddings, birthdays, baptisms, and graduations. We take great pride in this community and feel privileged to witness its ongoing evolution. Our community is dynamic and multifaceted, comprising various groups that contribute in different ways, enriching the collective experience.

Logos is dedicated to investing in young adults who are committed to their personal growth and actively exploring what it means to live their faith.

The Connectors are a community of young adults who have embraced the call to actively participate in Logos. We support the Connectors by addressing their personal development needs and surrounding them with a diverse and supportive community. Our goal is to provide a platform where they can authentically be themselves while forming meaningful relationships that empower them and others to thrive, contributing to a more caring and compassionate world.

We also recognise the invaluable contributions they make to our community, keeping us relevant and connected to young people, which in turn enhances our work.

Each year, we welcome new Connectors, many of whom have recently completed their high school education and are seeking a place to belong beyond their school communities. Connectors are invited to lead and participate in Logos programmes, events, and retreats, including:

  • The annual Salt and Light Retreat for Year 13 leaders
  • School retreats (Yrs 7-13 throughout the year)
  • Advisory groups
  • Mākete
  • Connectors

Many Connectors remain committed to Logos beyond their university or post-secondary years, with their involvement taking various forms. Some engage regularly with the team at the centre or at Ngā Tupu on a weekly basis, while others participate a few times a year, depending on their life circumstances or geographic location. As they mature, Connectors often transition into the role of Tuākana (older sibling or mentor) within the community.

Individuals reach this stage at different points in their lives, and most of the Tuākana in our community have been part of the Logos journey since their secondary school days. They continue to awhi (embrace and support) and be supported by Logos in numerous ways, reflecting the enduring strength and flexibility of our community.

    Community Mass

We celebrate Mass together as a community four times a year. Community Mass is an opportunity for our whole community to gather, share faith, and break bread. These are high points in our year because Community Mass draws people from all areas—Connectors, Tuākana, families, teachers, Marist Laity, religious orders, foundational members and others who have long been associated with Logos.

    Ngā Tupu

In March 2017, the long-standing dream of opening a Logos community house became a reality. Ngā Tupu, based in Mt Roskill, has been home to many people over the years. More than just a residence, it has evolved into a safe and welcoming space where young adults can meet and share their lives with one another. In an increasingly insular and individualistic world, places of deep belonging are more essential than ever. Ngā Tupu addresses this need by offering warmth, manaakitanga, and a place for prayer.

Ngā Tupu holds night prayers every Wednesday at 7 pm throughout most of the year. This practice has ebbed and flowed over time but remains a consistent source of nourishment and connection for the community.
